Goodbye City Life
So it's official! I bought my airplane ticket to FL for next Tuesday! I am SO excited to be going back. There are many things I will miss about D.C. though. This summer was the first time in my life I've actually lived in a real city.
Things I will miss about the city.
1. I LOVE the food. Even if I lived here my whole life I would never be able to try every restaurant with cool ethnic foods. Living by the ocean you can get your share of seafood but that's about it.
2. I love walking everywhere. I do miss my car terribly because of the convenience factor but I feel much healthier walking everyday...it's also done wonders for my figure.
3. The energy in the city. You just want to go out there and DO things when you see all the people around doing things in the city.
4. The professionalism. FINALLY I'm not the only one sitting there rolling their eyes when people are behaving obnoxiously or immaturely. In college that behavior gets you attention. In the professional world...not so much.
Things I will NOT miss about the city.
1. The PRICE of food. Seriously, I could spend all my life's savings in three days going to eat at some of the restaurants.
2. Walking everywhere...I KNOW I said this is one of the things I'll miss (and it is) but there are times (like when it's pouring down rain, or feels like 130 degrees) when I will not miss walking at all.
3. The gross smells. I don't know where they come from (and I don't want to know) but walking around the city you can inhale some pretty disturbing aromas.
4. Rude people. Enough said. (Now there are rude people everywhere but you don't have to be crammed into the metro with them etc.)
Well bloggy friends never fear. I will be telling you lots of wonderful stories about my life in FL...which I happen to think are more exciting (and they definitely involve more alcohol). These next few days I'll add more reflections on city life.

Have a safe trip back!!
I spent some time in Woodbridge, VA and always did some quick pitstops into DC... nothing too long, but always lovely half-days spent in the city! I can't wait to get back and really see the city for some sort of extended trip.
I hope you loved being there [sounds like you did!] and I'll look forward to hearing more about your time back in Florida. :)

So glad you had a good trip there... I know what you mean about the walking everywhere... sometimes I love it, and sometimes I absolutely hate it! Especially when I am late... and it goes hand in hand with the smells... I especially hate it when I am walking around in a super smelly part of the city!

I know what you mean about rude people and expensive food, I guess I kinda grown to it, living in the city my whole life. It might be nice to look for a change, yes?

Yay! Come back to Florida!
I live in Tampa but it's not really city-ish. I grew up in Boston. And it feels more like a city to me.
Boston I could walk everywhere but in Tampa, everything is so spread out, I can't walk anywhere.
But yay for coming back to Florida!

One of the biggest things I miss from when I was in college is being able to walk everywhere. I live in Dallas now, and everything is so spread out! It's definitely something to enjoy while you can!
August 5, 2009 9:30 PM
Don't leave!! Don't you know how hot it is here??? Ah ha ha. Safe travel!

i agree, city life has it's advantages and disadvantages! I still remember what NYC smelled like...ughh! But def miss the food and culture...and of course, the shopping.
And you asked about my hair: my sis-in-law does it, but she doesn't live in st. aug. she works in a small town north of jacksonville. it's about an hour and half from st. aug. let me know if you want more info! maybe you can come for a hair appt. and we could do lunch/dinner!
